Ardmore Blossoms Update

Ardmore, PA —One of the goals of The Ardmore Initiative is to make downtown Ardmore a cleaner, more vibrant, and more inviting destination. Ardmore Blossoms is a downtown beautification project that began in May, 2007 with the first Ardmore Blossoms Day. Close to 50 businesses participated by purchasing flower pots which were planted with seasonal spring flowers. Recently, The Ardmore Initiative replanted the pots with colorful fall mums & will soon replace them with winter evergreens to contribute to an inviting holiday spirit. Hunter Hayes Horticulturalist donated and planted close to 3000 tulips and close to 100 daffodils throughout downtown Ardmore in addition to cleaning up the flower and tree beds on Lancaster Ave., Schauffele Plaza and the Cricket Ave parking lot.

The Ardmore Initiative would like to thank all of the property and business owners who have participated in Ardmore Blossoms and encourage those who haven't yet come on board to install flower boxes or flower pots outside of their businesses. Additional cast iron pots may be ordered from Harry's Treasures for Spring arrival. Further enhancements to the Ardmore Blossoms project will include hanging baskets along Lancaster Ave, Rittenhouse Place and Cricket Terrace & a new watering system.

In addition to beautification projects, The Ardmore Initiative is addressing the cleanliness of our downtown and the growing graffiti problem. We have installed cigarette litter containers, have purchased additional trash receptacles and have our Green (street cleaning) Machine out daily. We also hope to work with neighborhood clean-up groups to remove graffiti from benches and poles and we encourage all of our business and property owners to keep their sidewalks free of litter and to remove graffiti promptly.

For more information on Ardmore Blossoms or to volunteer to help The Ardmore Initiative in their efforts, please contact Christine Vilardo, Executive Director at 610-645-0540 or email her at Christine@theardmoreinitiative.org.
